What do we need to bring?
Our cabins are provided completely made up with fresh sheets and towels. You should bring your personal toiletries (shampoo, razors, toothbrushes...), an appetite for breakfast (Kathy's breakfasts are known for being large) and the peace of mind to enjoy what the Finger Lakes has to offer. We provide breakfast. Your other meals are on your own at the many restaurants in the area. We'd be happy to make recommendations.

Are you located on the lake?
Yes, our property is right on the eastern shore of Seneca Lake and we have 110' of lakefront with a large dock. The beachfront is equipped with several seating areas to enjoy the beauty of Seneca Lake.

Are the cabins right on the beach?
No, the cabins and the main house sit up on a rise above the lake. A set of three stairs (50 steps) takes you down to the lakefront. Each cabin has lake views through the trees. The views are obscured by foliage in the summer and early fall.

Can we use the beachfront and dock?
Absolutely! You are welcome to sit on the beach, have a bonfire and walk or sit on the dock. You are also welcome to swim as long as you realize that you do so at your own risk. We suggest water shoes as the zebra mussels inhabiting the lake are quite sharp.

What are Zebra Mussels?
photo: Close-up of a Zebra musselZebra Mussels are small shellfish that have hitch-hiked their way from the Oceans to the Great Lakes and on to the Finger Lakes. They are less than an inch long but cluster in great numbers on rocks and can be quite sharp if you step on them (which is why we insist that you wear water shoes when going in the lake). They have increased the clarity of the lake which is pretty, but it is not a good thing for the general health of the lake ecosystem.

Can we use your boats?
Our insurance and the condition of our boats does not allow for that. You are welcome to bring your own kayak or canoe and we can even get it down to the beach for you. If you have a large boat you would like to use, you can launch it just up the road at the Lodi Point State Park. Please inquire if you plan on bringing a trailered boat as we have limited room for the trailer.

Do you have pets?
We have a chocolate Lab and two cats that inhabit the main house and half of the grounds. They are not allowed in the cabins and the dog can't even get near the cabins (invisible fence). The animals will not be underfoot at breakfast time either. Part of the beach is also dog free. If you have severe allergies to either cats or dogs, we can arrange to bring you breakfast in your cabin each morning.

Your policy says "No Pets", can we bring our dog, he doesn't bark, snore, shed, or do anything else that might be offensive?
Personally we love animals, but we do not allow pets in the cabins (even our own pets). This helps us ensure that the cabins will not trigger a guest's allergies. As animal lovers we also want to free our minds from worrying about whether Fido has an aversion to thunderstorms as a storm rolls in two minutes after his owners go out to dinner. We are a couples-only romantic retreat. When you want a place to get away from it all, including the dog or cat, we are here for you. If you really must travel with your animals you may want to try the places listed as Dog Friendly in the Finger Lakes.

Are you close to the wineries?
With a name like ours, we had better be! We are within 3 miles of the start (we call it the start) of the wine trail. There are at least 20 wineries between us and Watkins Glen which is 15 miles away. No other wine trail in the world is as densely packed as our side of the trail.

Do we have to share cabins or bathrooms?
Only with your significant other. Each cabin holds two people and has a private attached bathroom. You don't have to share it with anyone you don't want to. Breakfast is the only time you have to share, as we serve all our guests at once.

Can we bring a grill and cook out?
No. Sometimes there is confusion that these are camping cabins. Wine Country Cabins is a Bed and Breakfast where guests want to be pampered with the knowledge that last night's cooking remains were not washed out in their bathroom sink. For the same reason we prefer you don't cook by bonfire. Smore's or popcorn are encouraged (almost mandatory), but if you are thinking of cooking a meal, we'd like to suggest you stay at one of the many state parks in the area.

Are there any good restaurants in the area?
There are several. They range from modest family diners to 5-star restaurants. Visit our dining page for more information.

Are those sunset photos real?
Our sunsets are spectacular, and the photos we have taken have been altered for size only. All the colors and patterns have not been altered.

How far apart are the cabins?
Our three cabins are fairly close together as you can see in this photo. However, they are farther apart than most rooms in an ordinary Bed and Breakfast.

Can we party on the beach?
If your idea of partying is a quiet romantic bottle of wine while watching a sunset or bonfire, absolutely. If your idea of partying is crankin some tunes and whootin and hollerin till the wee hours, we think you would be more at home staying at Sampson State Park. We are a calm, tranquil bed and breakfast known for peace and quiet, we are not a camp ground or fraternity house.

Your policy says, "No children," can we bring our 5 month old?
Our Bed and Breakfast caters specifically to being a romantic escape for couples. Allowing non-adult children, of any age, would ruin the romance. When you and your partner need a romantic getaway, we'll be here for you. Until then, you may find this list of other Finger Lakes Inns to be helpful in finding some child-friendly accommodations.
